How to Wash an Embroidered Hat Without Ruining It
November 1, 2026
Embroidered hats are built to be worn, but a little care keeps the stitching crisp and the crown in shape. Here is the gentle routine we recommend for every Cat on Hat cap.
Spot clean first
For small marks, dab the area with cool water and a drop of mild detergent on a soft cloth or toothbrush. Work gently around the embroidery instead of scrubbing across it.
Hand wash for a deeper clean
Fill a sink with cool water and a little mild detergent. Let the hat soak for about 15 minutes, gently clean the sweatband, then rinse with cool water.
Skip the washing machine and dryer — heat and tumbling can warp the brim and loosen stitching.
Dry it in shape
Pat away extra water with a towel, then let the hat air dry over a rounded object like a bowl or a rolled towel. Keep it out of direct sun and away from heaters.
Store it right
Keep hats on a hook or shelf rather than crushed in a bag, and they will hold their shape far longer. (Cats sleeping in them is permitted.)
